Dixon Of Dock Green On BBC Radio 4 Extra

BBC Radio 4 Extra will be giving fans a rare chance to listen to David Tennant’s 2005 radio series Dixon Of Dock Green. The broadcasts start next week and run over consecutive days.

BBC Radio revived the classic police TV drama series in 2005 with David Calder in the lead role as PC George Dixon, Charlie Brooks as his daughter Mary and David Tennant as his protégé PC Andy Crawford. David only appeared in the first series of the drama, having just taken on the role of the Tenth Doctor. The series harks back to a gentler era of policing, where the constabulary concern themselves with lost bicycles and football rattles, although the series does end with Dixon in genuine jeopardy. The episodes were adapted by Sue Rodwell from original scripts by Ted Willis

Dixon Of Dock Green begins on Wednesday 30th May at 6.00am with repeats the same day at 1.00pm and 8.00pm and 1.00am the following morning. Episodes 2 and 3 can be heard on Thursday 31st and Friday 1st June, with episodes 4 to 6 running from Monday to Wednesday the following week. It will also be available via BBC iPlayer.
