About the episode:

David Tennant and Olivia Colman star as detectives in this eight-part crime thriller written by Chris Chibnall and directed by James Strong.
On a morning in July, the Dorset town of Broadchurch is bracing itself for the annual influx of holidaymakers. But 11-year-old local boy Danny Latimer has gone missing. As his mother Beth (Jodie Whittaker) starts to search frantically for him, local CID officer DS Ellie Miller (Colman) returns to work after a family holiday. But she is shocked to discover that the promotion she thought was hers has gone to DI Alec Hardy (Tennant), whom she has never met before, an outsider to the town with a reputation for failure.
Then the call comes through – Danny’s body has been found on the beach. Preliminary findings suggest that Danny’s death is suspicious, so Miller and Hardy must break the terrible news to Beth, her husband Mark (Andrew Buchan), and Danny’s sister Chloe (Charlotte Beaumont). Hardy believes that Danny must have been abducted and swears to the family he will find whoever is responsible for Danny’s death. As the investigation gets under way, can the friendly and engaging Miller and the rude and abrupt Hardy put aside their differences to work as a team.

  • Kris Tin Wu I'm hooked. Good story and I really enjoyed it. David Tennant was brillant! Can't wait until next week!
  • Allie Hiney well so far so good!.. great start to what seems to be a a good crime drama, David Tennant was very good as the Moody Detective Inspector Alec Hardy and Olivia Colman is great as Detective Sergeant Miller oops sorry "Ellie" ... two wonderful actors can't wait to see what they do with not only the characters, but the Crime itself, can't beat a whodunnit!
  • Helen Caulfield Jones I thought it was really hard to watch at times due to the storyline. But it was brilliant and addicted already. Truely great acting by all.
  • Frankie Richer At last a drama series that will have us impatient for the next episode. well done. The revelation of each character as a well known actor/actress added to the enjoyment, as now we can see their acting abilities in a serious light and they ,so far, have come up winners.
  • Cynthia Vela It was brilliant. Everything about it was so incredibly well done. I also personally love seeing how talented David is. There can be are very thin lines between acting roles but he nails it everytime. I didnt see The Doctor, or Casanova, or Hamlet or Benedick or any other role. He took on the role of Alec Hardy and the way he does it is beyond amazing. I feel more and more proud everyday to call myself his fan.
  • Robert Bruce Very good it put"s jack frost(david jason) out of place 10/10 can"t wait for next monday night
  • Sharon Ingram Really enjoyed it, gripping stuff...and it bought back memories of a holiday in West Bay a few years ago!
  • Tina Frost gut wrenching and heart breaking, must be terrible to loose a child like that, his mummy & daddy wot they must be going through. billiant acting from the wonderfull mr Tennant, cant wait for the next episode!
  • Louise Wheeldon Slow to start as with all ITV dramas (ie Lewis) but has great potential!!!But I suppose you have to start somewhere. Looking forward to the rest of the series!! David & Olivia have a connection & great to Arthur Darvill in a new role
  • James Newman Excellently paced, slow burning, just like a good drama should be.
  • Lainey Shaw Brilliant! Olivia Coleman was excellent next to David Tennants cold character and I can't wait to see how the drama develops. Pauline Quirk didn't speak and already I can't wait to see what happens with her. Best TV for a long time
  • Tammy Wardell David was brilliant, such a talented actor, and the scene where the boy was found made me cry
  • Alison Harrison Gripping drama, Intrigued by David's character and background. Well acted. Xx
  • Ian Michael Walden A good slow-burn pace. Excellent acting of course. Intriguing hint-dropping & peeks into the character backgrounds. One small criticism - a little too many lingering atmospheric shots & closeups on bits of scenery and other stuff. I found myself noting "Chekov's Guns" for future reference (e.g. the stopped clocks, the barbed wire).
  • Jane Bechelet What a great program, my family and I love it. Having been to West Bay twice on holiday, once in the summer and once in the winter, it was great seeing it on TV again. What a brilliant lot of actors on Broadchurch especially having David Tennent on it, they all are great and what a good start to the series. We are looking forward to the next one on Monday.
  • Linda Tumilty fantastic! great writing...David's character strongly acted-looking forward to next Monday's episode!
  • Chanel Kennedy Amazing. Such a touching episode but done really well by everyone involved. Been a massive fan of David for years and he did himself justice. Already gripped and I can't wait for next weeks instalment.
  • Jenette Bennison Really enjoyed it brilliant acting made me want to go hug my children when it was finished very emotional.
  • Nikki Jane Eggett Absolutley brilliant, not even the first ad break and my mum was in tears. Im already trying to guess the culprit cant wait for next week!!
  • Claire Budd I've spent some happy hours on that peaceful beach with my own child. So I found it very poignant - especially the conversation between Ellie and the mother on the beach and the coroner talking to the detectives. A place like this would be completely shattered. Beautiful pix, excellent writing, touching performances.
  • Karen Bonnett thoroughly enjoyed it!!! can't wait till next week's episode. There's a story behind his character, can't wait to find out what it is!!!
