The eight part drama starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman centred around the police investigation into the murder of a young boy in a small seaside town. The series had the nation gripped in March and April of this year, and the conclusion was watched by over 10 million viewers. Created by Chris Chibnall and also starring Andrew Buchan, Jodie Whittaker, Pauline Quirke and Arthur Darvill, Broadchurch launched to almost unanimous critical acclaim and since has already started to win awards. The series has been picked up by broadcasters worldwide and is also being remade for American TV under the name of Gracepoint with David Tennant in the lead role. A second UK series is scheduled to start shooting in late spring 2014.
Other programmes in the top 10 included The Great British Bake Off, Breaking Bad and The Returned.
