Successful First Day Of Filming For Gracepoint

Local news stations on Vancouver Island, BC reported that the cast and crew of Gracepoint enjoyed a successful first day's filming yesterday as the ten-part series went into production.

Filming took place on Oak Bay Avenue, Oak Bay Village near Victoria in the Gracepoint Journal set and features Kevin Zegers, the Gossip Girl star who is playing journalist Owen Burke. Kevin Rankin (Breaking Bad), cast as local priest Paul Coates, was also present. Filming was watched by interested locals, several of whom were on the lookout for David Tennant, who did not film yesterday. Filming started early in the morning and was due to wrap at around 7.30pm.

Gracepoint follows the impact on a small Californian seaside community of the tragic and unexplained death of a young boy whose body is found on the beach below cliffs. The event series, produced by Fox, is an American adaptation of the award winning UK series Broadchurch. Broadchurch star David Tennant will lead the cast of Gracepoint, though this time round DI Alec Hardy becomes US Detective Emmett Carver. The cast also includes Nick Nolte, Anna Gunn and Jacki Weaver. Original series creator Chris Chibnall is on board as executive producer and has written the first episode, and multiple episodes will be directed by James Strong (Doctor Who, Broadchurch).

Production is scheduled to continue in various locations around the Greater Victoria area until late May. The series will premiere as part of the Fox TV 2014-15 series.
