Today in our review of 2014 we take a look back at the David
Tennant news from the month of May.
May 2014
Broadchurch
ITV confirmed the news that all Broadchurch fans had been
waiting for – David Tennant and Olivia Colman would both be back for the new series. New cast members Charlotte Rampling, Eve Myles, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, James D’Arcy and Phoebe
Waller-Bridge were announced. The cast read-through confirmed the return of Arthur Darvill, Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan. By
the end of the month the first (spoiler) photos of the cast at work had appeared online, though Chris Chibnall urged fans not to post set
photography for the rest of the shoot.
Broadchurch won three BAFTAs –Drama Series, Leading Actress (Olivia Colman) and Supporting Actor (David
Bradley). The series also won the Drama One Off award in the Televisual Bulldog Awards,
while Ólafur Arnalds picked up the Music award for his score.
Broadchurch continued to air in Italy and Denmark and
premiered in New Zealand.
Gracepoint
As they approached the end of their shoot in Canada, the
cast of Gracepoint, including David, took part in a promotional photoshoot.
David and co-star Anna Gunn were shot from an airbourne camera mounted on a
drone. David spoke about his American accent to local paper the Times Colonist where he admitted that he was starting to sound too Canadian.
David attended the FOX Fanfront Event in New York with fellow Gracepoint cast members. FOX released the official trailer for the show and confirmed that it would air on Thursdays as part of the Fall 2014
season. They also released the first set of promotional images featuring David, Anna, Nick Nolte and Michael Peña. Photos of David filming scenes with Kevin Rankin for what turned out to be the penultimate episode also appeared online.
Filming wrapped on Vancouver Island and a first sale of
props and costumes took place as sets were demolished.
Postman Pat: The
Movie
Postman Pat: The Movie premiered at the Odeon West End, Leicester
Square. Many of the cast including Stephen Mangan, Rupert Grint and Ronan
Keating attended, though David was still completing the Gracepoint shoot in
Canada. More information was given about David’s character, showbiz manager Wilf.
Richard II
The Royal Shakespeare
Company production of Richard II starring David was released on region-free DVD
and Blu-Ray.
What We Did On Our
Holiday
The release date of What We Did on Our Holiday was conformed
as Friday 26th September.
The film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival by distributors Independent.
Doctor Who
Doctor Who: The Day Of The Doctor picked up the Radio Times Audience Award at the 2014 BAFTAs
BBC Worldwide and Fathom Events announced the Doctor Who +Wings screenings in selected US cinemas.
The Escape Artist
David was nominated for his appearance in The Escape Artist
in the TV Choice Awards.
The series was also nominated.
The series premiered in Norway.
Audio
BBC Radio 3 began a rare repeat of the 2003 recording of
Mansfield Park starring David Tennant and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Adverts
David appeared in a new TV ad for the Virgin Media Big Kahuna Bundle. He also featured in some online clips on the Virgin website
