David Tennant & Olivia Colman Scoop TV Choice Acting Awards For Broadchurch

Broadchurch bowed out on a high tonight as the highly acclaimed drama made a clean sweep of awards in its nominated categories. The awards were announced tonight at the Dorchester Hotel in London.

David Tennant walked away with the Best Actor award for his role as troubled detective Alec Hardy. David was voted into the top spot by TV Choice Magazine's readers pipping some tough competition to the prize in the form of Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), Aidan Turner (Poldark) and George Rainsford (Casualty). As he accepted his award, David said, "To win a prize for this is the icing on the cake... It was five fantastic years & this is a great way to send it off."

Olivia Colman was also a winner as Best Actress for her portrayal of Ellie Miller, in an equally challenging category which included Michell Keegan (Our Girl), Amanda Mealing (Casualty) and Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark). Olivia wasn't present to collect her award as she is currently on stage, but sent a video message.

Broadchurch was the only ITV show, up against three BBC One dramas (Line Of Duty, Our Girl and Poldark) in the Best Drama Series category, but dominated to win. David Tennant and Chris Chibnall collected the award with David saying, "When you make a TV show you hope its good...the fact it's voted for by viewers who show how great it is."

The third and final series of Broadchurch aired earlier this year in the UK and centred on the hunt for the perpetrator of a serious sexual assault.
